Meet Our Artist-in-Residence
Caitlin
Cartwright
After
graduating with a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, Caitlin
moved to Madagascar and worked in an orphanage with young women to
produce arts and develop sustainable businesses. While there she
Also taught art, English, and spear-headed a mural project. After
returning to the States, Caitlin continued to paint and began working
with inner city youth development. In 2008 she joined the U.S.
Peace Corps and traveled to Namibia, Africa and co-founded Nambula
Girls Club, an organization focused on girls' empowerment, education
and health. After returning from Namibia, Caitlin refocused on her
painting and joined Pocosin Arts in October and will be with us through
February 2012! Below is a peek at what she has been working on in
her studio at Pocosin Arts.
Caitlin will be teaching our new, fun workshop Wine & Design and
also a children's Safari Collage workshop. For details, see The Studio.

On August 27, 2011 Hurricane Irene
passed over Pocosin Arts Folk School depositing
14 inches of rain. The Scuppernong River flooded the town of
Columbia and inundated
the first floor of Pocosin Arts with 24 inches of contaminated river
water. This was a historic flood event in Columbia, and many in our
region are still recovering.
With the help and hard work of our friends and neighbors, Pocosin Arts
Folks School is
currently in the process of reopening our first floor. However, we
still have lots going on here
on Main Street and other locations! Check our site often to see what
we're up to, and be sure
to become our fan on Facebook
for up-to-the-minute information.
Want to help with our rebuilding? See this site under Events for more
information.
